YouTube FAQ: 20 Answers to the Most Common Questions

In 2025, YouTube is watched monthly by 2.5 billion users. This has made the platform not just a hobby, but a lucrative job. In this article, we’ll answer the most popular questions (will make a so-called YouTube FAQ) that will help you promote and earn money on YouTube right now. Without further delay, let’s start!

YouTube FAQ

How to Make a Playlist on YouTube?

How to make playlists?

There’s a golden rule of YouTube: the more comfortable it is for a viewer to interact with your content, the more likely they are to subscribe to you. That’s why it is necessary to create playlists. How can you make them?

  1. Open the video.
  2. Tap Save below the video.
  3. Tap + New playlist.
  4. Enter a playlist name.
  5. Use the box to select your playlist’s privacy setting.
  6. Tap Create.

We recommend adding all videos to playlists to make it easier for users to immediately find content they are interested in. This increases the chance of making people regular viewers of your channel.

How to Edit YouTube Videos?

Obviously, in 2025, no one will be watching unedited videos. That’s why creators have two options: to edit their videos directly in YouTube Studio or in third-party programs.

Editing in YouTube Studio:

  1. Go to YouTube Studio
  2. Select the desired video file
  3. Cut unnecessary parts/add subtitles and music
  4. Save your changes

You can also use programs such as Sony Vegas Pro, CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or IMovie. The editing process differs in each app. By the way, don’t forget to add YouTube timestamp when you publish a video you’ve edited.

How to Add Music to YouTube Videos?

To make your video more interesting to watch, be sure to add audio to the background. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Enter YouTube Studio.
  2. Select Content from the left menu.
  3. Click the video you’d like to edit.
  4. Click Editor from the left menu.
  5. Select Audio and press Add.
  6. Don’t forget to click Save.

Trust us: engagement and retention in your videos will now be much higher. Where To Find Free Tracks for YouTube Videos? We have a whole article about this, just check it out.

How to See Subscribers on YouTube?

When you go to the channel page, you always see the total number of subscribers. Do you want to understand how to see who subscribed to you on YouTube? It is possible!

  1. Go to YouTube Studio
  2. Find the “Recent Subscribers” card on your Dashboard.
  3. Click “See All”

Important note: you’ll only see the most recent subscribers in 28 days and those who haven’t hidden their subscriptions.

Can You Buy YouTube Subscribers?

Don’t worry: YouTube won’t block you for googling this. But still, we do not recommend using services for gaining subscribers.

Why? Because YouTube can block your channel for suspicious activity on it. So how to get subscribers? We’ve told all the secrets in the article about how to grow your YouTube channel.

How to Make Money on YouTube Without Making Videos?

How to make money on YouTube

We don’t know if we’re going to upset you or not, but to get money from YouTube you have to post videos. That’s the harsh truth. If you don’t want to post videos often, you can add ads to old content or ad links in video descriptions.

We understand that producing and editing videos is quite a time consuming process. However, if you put in the effort, future advertising contracts and viewer loyalty will pay off and bring you to desirable YouTube monetization.

How to Get Monetized on YouTube?

Even though we wrote a whole article about it (and even more than one), we’ll share a brief summary. What do you need to do to get monetized?

  1. Enter YouTube Studio.
  2. Tap Content from the left Menu.
  3. Select the video that you want to monetize.
  4. Tap Edit.
  5. Tap Monetization. Select ON to turn on video ads.
  6. Save changes.

It’s also worth mentioning that your channel must have at least 500 subscribers and 3,000 views in the last 90 days. And actually, we have a whole article about YouTube monetization requirements, we recommend reading it.

What is the Best Time to Post on YouTube?

While basically everyone says that there is no perfect and exact time when you should post videos, there is one nuance. The best time to post videos is in the afternoon and evening, between 2 PM and 4 PM, and from 8 PM to 11 PM.

One more important nuance: no matter what anyone says, it’s better not to post videos on weekends. Why? Well, it makes sense: people are more rested on the weekends and less likely to be using social media.

What is the best time to post YouTube Shorts? Despite the rumors, the tips will be the same as for regular videos. The Shorts promotion system is not much different from long-form videos.

How Long Do You Have to Watch a YouTube Video for It to Count as a View?

You might think that users have to watch at least half of the video for their views to count. We want to reassure you: things are much more optimistic. According to YouTube algorithm for views, just 30 seconds of viewing is enough to count as a “view”. Of course, you won’t get a lot of money for 1 view, but we have already written about how much YouTube pays for 1 million views in our article.

Can You See Who Views Your YouTube Videos?

Even though YouTube provides detailed channel analytics on your subscribers, it’s impossible to see exactly who is watching your videos. Thanks to YouTube Analytics, you can find out some information about your viewers:

  • gender (in graphs)
  • age
  • location (the most popular country)
  • traffic source (where have the viewers found your video)
  • watch time
  • devices used

With such information you can understand which type of content you should stick to.

What Does Copyright Claim Mean on YouTube?

What does copyright claim mean?

What is the difference between YouTube copyright strike vs claim? Copyright on YouTube means that your videos are under author’s rights protection. As are the videos of other creators, by the way.

If a creator uses someone else’s videos without the permission of another YouTuber, they will receive a Copyright Claim. It can be issued automatically or on complaint of the creator whose materials you use. Copyright Claim does not always lead to instant blocking, but it can attract a temporary restriction of your channel.

With frequent copyright infringement, the channel may eventually be blocked. And read about how not to get copyrighted on YouTube in our new article.

What Does Unlisted Mean on YouTube?

It’s important to realize that private videos and unlisted videos are not the same thing. If you make a video private, only you will be able to see it (even if you share the link with someone else). If your video is unlisted, that means it won’t be found by a search engine, but it will be available if you share the link with someone.

Note: if someone adds an unlisted video to their public playlist, other people may have access to your video.

How to See Dislikes on YouTube?

Unfortunately, as we know, in 2021 YouTube removed the ability to see the number of dislikes under a video. In general, this way people could understand at a glance whether they should watch the video or not. Disappointing or not: you will not see dislikes under the video. But there is one solution.

To get a rough idea of the number of dislikes, go to the Analytics of your video in YouTube Studio. Then select the “Engagement” tab and there you’ll see the % “Likes (vs. dislikes)” – this shows how much of all ratings are likes. So, anything that will not be likes are dislikes. Not the most reliable way to do it, but still.

Another method: use the Return YouTube Dislike extension for popular browsers. This way you will see the exact number of dislikes.

How to Turn on Comments on YouTube?

Overall, the mechanism is something similar to disabling the ability to comment on videos. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Go to YouTube Studio.
  2. Select Settings from the left menu.
  3. Select Community Moderation/Defaults.
  4. Select the default settings under “Comments on your channel” and “Messages in your live chat.”
  5. Save your selection.

If you want to turn off comments, enter the same department of YouTube Studio. Or you can choose not to disable comments, but try a new feature audio responses to comments, which we told you about in the Blog not so long ago.

How to Change YouTube Channel Name?

Actually, changing the channel name is not as difficult as it seems. All you need to do is:

  1. Go to YouTube Studio
  2. Click “Customization” in the left menu, then go to “Profile”.
  3. Click on the pencil icon next to your name and edit it.
  4. Don’t forget to click on the “Publish” button to save your changes.

That’s it! But be careful: you can only change your name twice within 14 days.

How to Delete a YouTube Channel?

How to delete a YouTube channel?

  1. Go to YouTube Studio.
  2. Select Settings from the left sidebar .
  3. Choose Channel/Advanced Settings.
  4. At the bottom, click to Remove YouTube Content.
  5. Click “I want to permanently delete my content”.

How to Delete Videos on YouTube?

As with most of the previous questions, it all starts with YouTube Studio. What do I need to do to delete a video?

  1. Go to YouTube Studio
  2. Select Content from the left menu
  3. Hover over the video you want to delete
  4. Select Options/Delete forever
  5. Click “Delete forever” in the tooltip that pops up.

All in all, we don’t recommend deleting videos. It’s better to make them private so as not to ruin your channel statistics.

How to Upload a Short on YouTube?

Well, it’s as simple as regular videos:

  1. Enter YouTube Studio.
  2. Tap Create and Upload videos on the top.
  3. Select the video you’d like to upload.
  4. Add details to your video, such as a title, the privacy settings, and your audience.
  5. Tap “Upload Short”.

You can do it via the App or Dashboard version of YouTube.

How Long Can a YouTube Short Be?

Many people think that YouTube Shorts still only allows you to upload videos up to 1 minute long. This is a mistake! Back in the fall, YouTube shared the news that you can now upload 3-minute YouTube Shorts. So now you can post even more content.

Generally speaking, the optimal length of Shorts is between 15 seconds and 1 minute. If the Shorts is less than 15 seconds or longer than 3 minutes, you will not be able to upload it. Meanwhile, we talked about how to monetize YouTube Shorts in one of our articles.

How to Change Thumbnails on YouTube?

YouTube video thumbnails are visuals by which viewers can select videos to watch from the Recommendations feed. Of course, YouTube itself automatically offers a thumbnail of screenshots from the video, but we all realize that such visuals will definitely not attract viewers in 2025. What is the best size for YouTube thumbnail images? How to change the thumbnail on your video? There are 2 ways in total.

On your computer:

  1. Open YouTube Studio
  2. Select Content on the left
  3. Click the Pen icon next to the video you want to edit
  4. Click the 3-Dot icon and then Thumbnail
  5. Click Change → Select an auto-generated thumbnail or Upload yours
  6. Save it

On Mobile:

  1. Download and open YouTube Studio
  2. Tap your profile picture → Select Library
  3. Find the video → More → Edit
  4. Select “Edit Thumbnail”
  5. Change it: Select an auto-generated thumbnail or upload a custom one
  6. Save it
