YouTube Declares War on Clickbait Videos

YouTube has promised to ramp up measures to combat “egregious clickbait,” especially videos that cover breaking news and current events. The platform considers clickbait the videos with thumbnails and titles that “promise viewers something that the video doesn’t deliver.” According to YouTube, these videos make viewers “feel tricked.”

The company noted that users come to the website in search of truthful and timely information on important issues, and not everyone is able to recognize clickbait videos, and some people do not see the difference between clickbait and normal content.

YouTube’s fight against clickbait videos will start in India, which countries will be next is yet unknown. At this point, the platform will remove any videos that violate the new policy without issuing a strike. After processing posted content, they will prioritize the inspection of new uploads to prevent clickbait media content from being published on the platform altogether.
