News Digest: Social Media News for April 2025

Worried you might have missed some big news from last month? We’ve got you! We’ve prepared for you a recap of the most important things that happened in April on the major social media platforms. So without further ado, let’s get down to it!

Social Media News

New Features to Celebrate YouTube’s 20th Anniversary

New Features to Celebrate YouTube's 20th Anniversary

YouTube turned 20 in April. For this occasion, the video hosting platform has released a number of updates that have already become popular among creators and regular users. Among them:

  • Voice Replies to Comments

Previously, this feature was available to a limited number of people in test mode. Now every creator will be able to reply in comments not only with the usual text, but also with voice messages. The platform believes that this may make it easier for creators to communicate their thoughts to users, possibly making their work easier and faster.

  • Multiviewing on YouTube TV

Since April, all YouTube TV users have been able to display multiple videos at once, so now you can customize your viewing experience the way you want. So keep this aspect in mind when creating your content.

  • x4 Playback Speed

Previously, the highest viewing speed was x2. The x4 speed will now be available for Premium users. It remains to be seen how this will affect viewing depth, but it’s clear that this feature will benefit creators and viewers alike.

  • Related Videos on YouTube Shorts

There’s another way to promote your long-form videos: YouTube has allowed you to embed a link to them right in the description to Shorts. Apparently, the platform thinks this will increase your engagement metrics.

AI+Youtube Recommended=?

While previously the algorithms for getting videos to the top may have seemed irrelevant and strange, YouTube has finally decided to deal with the issue. Overall, the platform claims that using AI will help them make recommendations clearer and more precisely tailored to each user.

According to YouTube representatives: “We’re experimenting with a new video results carousel that appears after entering certain search queries. This new feature will use AI to highlight clips from videos that will be most helpful for your search query, providing another way to discover content when searching on YouTube as well as discover topics and information related to your search query.”

Auto-Dubbing of Videos

Auto-Dubbing of Videos

Previously, promoting to an international audience was something difficult and expensive, as you had to hire specialists to do a quality voiceover for you. YouTube has solved this issue and enabled you to do it quickly and automatically. Of course, the feature still needs refinement, but for now it’s a great way to reach new audiences from around the globe. And yes, you don’t need a multi-million dollar budget anymore.

YouTube also announced the option to give multiple gifts at the same time during live streams. That means you can earn more money from gifts.

Instagram Edits: A New CapCut Competitor?

A month ago, there was the high-profile and highly anticipated release of the Instagram Edits editing app. The thing is that many favorite features from CapCut became unavailable in the free version, and this was an unpleasant surprise for some users. Instagram caught this wave in time and created its own version of the popular app. What Edits offers:

  • Multichannel editing
  • Notes to videos
  • New visual effects (free of course, at least at the start)
  • Tips from the platform on trending sounds and formats

Will Edits become a real replacement for CapCut? For now it’s hard to predict, but we still recommend doing a test of the new product.

TikTok’s Specialized Reward Program is now Available!

Tiktok recently introduced a new invite-only Specialized Reward Program that rewards creators from specific genres. And some of them have already gotten their pay!

For now, the platform has concentrated on creators who talk about cars, movies and TV series, sports and learning. We are sure that soon a similar initiative will reach creators from other themes, so we recommend keeping an eye on our newsletters. We also talk about all the new features in our Blog.
