New on Instagram: Low Views = Poor Quality?

Does that sound absurd? Indeed, video quality degradation due to views can be frustrating for creators. However, it’s not all that clear-cut. How will the algorithm work now? We’ll tell you in this post.

Not long ago, Instagram head Adam Mosseri revealed in his weekly column that now the quality of videos with low view counts will deteriorate after a certain amount of time. You’re probably asking: what for? That’s a good question.

As Instagram representatives themselves say, this will help to improve the quality of content and give the user only the best and most relevant to their requests. By the way, it’s not as hopeless as you initially thought.

Despite such disappointing news for creators, Instagram will still promote low-quality videos. Basically, it will work like this: you upload a video, Instagram promotes it to people and see their reaction in a short period of time. If the video is heavily interacted with, the quality of the video remains the same. However, if the video is not in demand among users, Instagram will gradually degrade its quality.

Don’t get frustrated yet, aspiring creators! Adam Mosseri states that even “unsuccessful” videos will be re-promoted by the platform after some time. So there are still chances for success.

To be honest, our reaction to the news was mixed. On the one hand, you’ll be able to watch Reels even with a poor internet connection.  On the other hand, it complicates the path to success for aspiring creators (who already have a hard time in 2024).

How will this idea turn out? We’ll keep following this story’s developments. In the meantime, read other news and articles in our Blog section.
